CanSat Competitie 2009 - 2010

Cansat - Competition

CanSat Competition

The CanSat-competiton is disigned to give students a chance to obtain practical experience in building an complex system, where multiple diciplines are important. Space travel is pre-eminently the field where the multidisciplinary character of science and technique comes forward. But not only among students the cansatcompetition arouses enthousiasm. Also among their parants and theachers much appreciation and enthousiasm is created. As a result the attitude of the people concerned and surroundings changes from "technique is difficult" to "technique is fun". this means that students intressed in technique should get triggerd to choose a technical study.

The standard components of a (space travel) project such as writing a mission proposal, system design, documentation, the construction and testing the system and launching make of the project a broad platform of subjects where participants with a large variation of interests can participate. The participants will learn to cooperate in a team; an important skill for the professional carreer of the students.

The Dutch CanSat competition will mainly follow the same lines as the American CanSat competition. This is because of the future plans of the ESA education departement and the other CanSat-competitions in Europe to set up an European- or worldwide cansat-competition for the winners of the national competitions.

Every participating group exists of approxematly 7 students. That will depend on the complexity of the tasks that have to be carried out. At the start of the project the teams will be accompanied in disigning and documentating the project and the students will also participate in a workshop to learn how to solder and program a CanSat. Afterwards the CanSat will be build and tested to be launched in the summer. At the end the competition the teams will give a presentation.

The documentation, the performance of the satellite, the processing of the aquired data and the final presentation will be judged by a jury to decide which team will be the winner.
The winner will recieve a prize.
